Last night I ran out of shampoo and used some of J's.  The label said it was intended to "maintain blond highlights and tone down brassiness".  I don't have any blond highlights, but my hair is decidedly red, so I thought reducing my brassiness seemed like a fine idea.  To my surprise the shampoo was bright brilliant blue.  This should have stopped me, but whatever.  I was already committed to the experience by this point.  What I have learned is that when you use blue toner on red hair, you get purple hair.  And I have to give a workshop this morning.  Sigh.

...umm...well...it is true that red and blue do make purple...

Isn't it some sort of a drama workshop? So, purple is dramatic!

Exactly, I forgot to apply colour theory in anticipating the results of this experiment. Drama workshop it is, and dramatic I will be.

Well, according to psychological studies, purple denotes power, control, mysticism, wealth, and uniqueness. And to dream of purple hair is, apparently, symbolic of indifference. So your audience may think any of these things. Or that you are quite mad. x P

I'm sure that on you, it looks good. Even though you are much too young for purple hair.

Might there be pictures?

Pixie, I rather like most of that, though I don't know about indifference. I'm not sure what they thought, but I got through it okay, which was all I was hoping for.

Brown, where have you been??

Susan, great is a big leap. Fortunately because it was just toner it's only a purplish tinge and not full blown purple. I've just taken a picture but it just looks RED again, the way it always does. I swear it's actually got purple in it. Why does the flash make it disappear?

I appreciate the show-and-tell, but was also going to comment that it looks like red hair. I was wondering if my eyes were deceiving me. Red hair is glorious! You are lucky.

When I was a kid I always wanted platinum blond hair and bright blue eyeshadow so I could like Agnetha from ABBA. Fortunately my purple tone has washed out pretty quickly.

I had a hair fiasco once where I colored it too dark and so I thought highlights would help. Then it was goth black wit red streaks. Yikes.

This is why I don't color my hair. Also, I am lazy.
